That time of year has come again and as usual, you’ve forgotten to get the dear Mammy in your life something to celebrate all it is she does for you. Be it your own mother, the mother of your children or just a special Mammy, they all deserve a special something this mothers day! 

We here at Eatyard love our Mammies and we worked closely with ours to perfect the mothers day box for yours! Less faff and more good stuff to enjoy. Delicious Irish cheeses, some quality accompaniments and one of the best Rosés we have had in quite a while. “But Eatyard” we hear you cry. “I want to put in some extra effort this year, my Mammy deserves it” you plead. Don’t worry, we’ve got your back. Follow this simple guide to assemble a banging cheese board at home and surprise the Mammy this year! First thing’s first. About an hour before you plan on serving your board take your cheese out of the fridge. This is crucial, as letting your cheese come up to room temperature massively improves both the texture and flavor of your cheese. If you don’t plan on eating the entire piece, don’t worry. Just cut off what you need, cover in a damp paper towel and put the rest back into the fridge for another day.

 

Whenever we have charcuterie or cured meat to use, we also like to take it out of the fridge about an hour beforehand. If we have heartier meats like the stick of Gubbeen Chorizo, a little (not so secret) tip is to cut it chunky, put the bits in a cold pan and chuck it on medium heat to gently heat up and render the fat. Fry till crisp and put into a serving dish with the rendered fat for dipping some crusty bread into! Delish!

 

As for other accompaniments… We tend to keep it simple, add something crunchy, something sweet and something tart and you’re well on your way to the best cheese board of your life. We include Sheridans chutney in our boxes because it gives you the sweet and tart you crave with cheese! Put a healthy dollop of this stuff in the middle of your board, flanked by crackers on one side and your cheeses on the other. Snuggle your little bowl of Chorizo up next to everything and finish off with some grapes, apple slices and cornichons if you have them for extra texture!
